Our purpose

Every great community rally begins with one person, one reason, one heart that reminds us why showing up matters. For us, that person is Edward Serrano.

Edward’s story is one of grit, faith and an unshakable love for the people around him. When he was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2020, our world stood still. Edward has since faced additional diagnoses including blood and bone cancer, endured countless surgeries, and defied every odd ever given to him. Through it all, Edward has refused to let any prognosis define him. Instead, he turned his battle into a mission to keep living fully, laughing loudly, and inspiring others to do the same.

A lifelong athlete and mentor, Edward finds his greatest joy in coaching kids not just in sports, but in life. Whether on the field, on the court, in the ring, or in everyday moments, he teaches lessons that go far beyond the game: teamwork, respect, perseverance, and heart. He shows kids (and adults) that effort matters more than outcome. He believes that strength is found in showing up, even on the hardest days.

What began as family and friends gathering around Edward has grown into something much bigger, a movement to Serve Strong. #SerranoStrong.

Pickle for a Purpose charity tournament was born from the belief that no one fights alone. It’s a day that blends what Edward loves most: competition, laughter, and community coming together. It allows each of us to show up for something that truly matters.

Every serve, every rally, every cheer from the sidelines honors Edward’s strength, his unwavering love for kids, and the countless others that walk similar paths. The proceeds go directly toward helping Edward face medical hardship, easing his burden while celebrating his courage.
